Today, we’re looking ahead to the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December. Check out these trading cards from Topps Star Wars: Rogue One: Mission Briefing!
That’s right, there won’t be any Lord of the Rings or other action figures today. Since more than 99% of my action figure collection remains in storage while I wait for a new display space [see Sunday’s news], I’ll keep talking about trading cards. When the toys are away, the cards will play… or something like that. 😄
Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main set includes 100 cards featuring stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series of that era, highlighting major moments such as the creation and destruction of the Death Star.
Today, I want to cover the next four cards, telling more of the original story from 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Luke barely knows Princess Leia beyond her message to Obi-Wan, but when R2-D2 reveals she is on the Death Star, Luke exclaims, “The princess? She’s here?” This news pushes Luke and Han to quickly plan a daring rescue. Disguised as an Imperial transfer team, they sneak into the detention level to save Princess Leia before her scheduled execution.
After fighting their way into cell block AA-23, Luke opens Princess Leia’s door to rescue her. She sees his stormtrooper disguise and jokes about his height in only a way that Carrie Fisher could deliver. Luke tells her who he is, says Han Solo is with him, and explains their rescue plan.
Han and Luke try to stall the Imperial troops. Han’s awkward radio chat, though hilarious, does not work, so he destroys the console. When the hallway is blocked, Leia takes charge and shoots open a vent, leading everyone into the trash compactor to escape.
Yes, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, along with Masters of the Universe, are still showing in some theaters. If you haven’t seen them yet, try to catch them on the big screen before they leave.
