That’s right, there won’t be any Funko or other action figures today. Since more than 99% of my action figure collection remains in storage while I wait for a new display space [see Sunday’s news], I’ll keep talking about trading cards. When the toys are away, the cards will play. 😄👍
Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main set includes 100 cards featuring stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series of that era, highlighting major moments such as the creation and destruction of the Death Star.
Today, I want to cover the next four cards, telling more of the original story from 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
I’m not sure how he knew to do this, but Obi-Wan sneaks onto the Death Star’s core infrastructure. He uses stealth to avoid stormtroopers, reaches the tractor beam’s control terminal, and cuts the power, allowing the Millennium Falcon to escape. After many years apart, Obi-Wan and his former apprentice meet again on the Death Star. Obi-Wan stays calm as he faces Vader, distracting him so Luke can escape. He accepts defeat and becomes a Force spirit.
Once the Falcon escapes, Imperial TIE fighters chase after it. Luke and Han take the ship’s quad-laser turrets, blasting the incoming attackers. Although they appear side by side, they are actually facing the ship’s top and bottom. Thanks to their sharpshooting and Han’s flying, they destroy the fighters and jump to hyperspace.
Shortly after, it is revealed that Grand Moff Tarkin deliberately lets the Millennium Falcon escape the Death Star. Anticipating an escape, the Empire planted a homing beacon aboard the ship. As Han flies unsuspecting rebels to Yavin 4, the Death Star’s tracker leads it straight to their secret base.
Yes, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, along with Masters of the Universe, are still showing in some theaters. If you haven’t seen them yet, try to catch them on the big screen before they leave.
