Rogue One: Mission Briefing Part 25

Recommended music: The Who – Won’t Get Fooled Again

This #WhateverWednesday, we’re looking ahead to the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December. Check out these trading cards from Topps Star Wars: Rogue One: Mission Briefing!

Since my action figures are still packed away, waiting for a new display, the cards keep coming out to play.

Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main set has 100 cards with stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series from that era, including the creation and destruction of the Death Star. There are also 10 more cards in the base set, which I’ll start covering soon.

Today, I’m sharing the next four base cards. These feature the last four characters from A New Hope that Topps chose to include in this set.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is Luke’s Jedi mentor. He introduces Luke to the Force, hires Han Solo at the Mos Eisley cantina, and sacrifices himself in a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader so the heroes can escape the Death Star.

Alec Guinness, who played Obi-Wan, didn’t hate the film. He called it imaginative entertainment, but he wasn’t a fan of the dialogue, the sci-fi genre, or the intense fan obsession that overshadowed his long career in drama. Financially, he was glad he negotiated a contract for 2.25% of the film’s backend royalties, which supposedly earned him tens of millions of dollars from the film’s huge success.

R2-D2 serves as the catalyst for the plot by carrying Princess Leia’s stolen Death Star plans and secret message across Tatooine to find Ben Kenobi. Accompanying him is C-3PO, who acts as Artoo’s reluctant companion and interpreter, translating Artoo’s beeps and helping with protocol during their risky journey.

Finally, General Jan Dodonna is the tactical commander at the Rebel base on Yavin 4. He leads the team that analyzes the stolen Death Star plans, identifies the weak point in the thermal exhaust port, and briefs the X-wing and Y-wing pilots before their assault on the Empire’s battle station. Although ‘May the Force be with you’ is most commonly linked with Han or Obi-Wan, it was actually General Dodonna who was the first to say the famous line.
