Recommended music: Nightwish – Elvenpath
It’s #TolkienThursday, and since my action figures are still packed up, awaiting a new display, posts from the archive will keep coming into play.
Here’s another example of how the music I picked for my original blog post from Howard Shore’s score for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring fit the toy of the day perfectly. Today, I wanted to set a similar mood using a track that isn’t from the movie.
Nightwish’s “Elvenpath” is a great match for the ToyBiz Frodo and Samwise Elven Boat set. Released in 1997, just four years before ToyBiz launched its Fellowship of the Ring line, the song has the same nostalgic, symphonic high-fantasy energy as the movie-based toy.
The song connects different generations of Tolkien fans by sampling spoken-word audio from Ralph Bakshi’s 1978 animated film prologue. The music celebrates classic fantasy journeys, like Frodo and Sam leaving Lothlórien and heading into the unknown. Instead of using a quiet film score, the track’s powerful rhythms and vocals bring energy and adventure to the LOTR toy shelf.
