Zoot (Reblog)

Recommended music: Miles Davis – So What

It’s #SomethingElseSunday, and since my action figures are still packed, waiting for a new display, archive posts will come into play. After 1100+ posts on the blog, we’ll continue to have to revisit some old toys for now.

The first time I wrote about Zoot, I shared a montage of clips showing him playing the last note during the end credits of The Muppet Show. This time, I want to share a song that suits his character even more.

“So What” by Miles Davis is the perfect soundtrack for the Palisades Zoot figure because it captures the saxophonist’s classic cool jazz style. The song even connects Zoot to his real jazz roots, as he’s named after sax legend Zoot Sims, who previously played with Miles Davis. The character is a tribute to the golden age of 1950s bebop and cool jazz. The song’s relaxed, open groove matches Zoot’s laid-back, sleepy vibe.

When John Coltrane starts playing his tenor saxophone part just after three minutes into this track, you can almost hear that smoky, late-night club sound coming from the Zoot figure.
