Happy #MastersMonday, He-Fans and She-Ravers! Although 99% of my Masters of the Universe collection is still packed away for a new display, something new will come into play. This week, we’re looking at the Mattel Press Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film!

Released in September, Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film takes you to Eternia and shares over 200 pages of pictures and a unique behind-the-scenes look at the design work, creature development, and concept art that brought the franchise back to the big screen.

Not many movies these days receive official “Making of” companion books, so it was nice to see that type of information for the 2026 film included in depth. The book includes concept paintings, storyboard art, early costume designs, and commentary from the artists and filmmakers who reimagined this pop-culture icon for the next generation and, honestly, for fans from the 1980s.

Some highlights of the book for me include an embossed hard cover featuring He-Man’s new chest armor cross design, close-ups of youthful art seen in Adam’s earth-based bedroom, concept art for Evil-Lyn and the new version of the Roton, and a closer look at costumes we didn’t see clearly in the film, like Moss-Man and the Fright Fighter pilot.

This book offers a nostalgic look at fantasy and artistic creativity. If you enjoyed the film this past summer, this would be a great addition to your Masters of the Universe bookshelf!
