Recommended music: YES – Owner of a Lonely Heart
It’s another #TurtleTuesday, and since my action figures are still packed and waiting for a new display, I’ll dig up some archive posts. After 1100+ blog posts, we’ll keep revisiting some old toys for now.
When I first shared this cartoon-style Leo from NECA Toys, I simply included a barbershop version of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme. But maybe there’s a song that suits Leonardo himself even better.
“Owner of a Lonely Heart” by Yes is a great match for the Leonardo action figure because it reflects the burden he feels as the team’s leader. Even though the turtle brothers are close, Leonardo has to make tough decisions, keep everyone in line, and take the blame when things go wrong.
The song’s energetic 1980s rock sound and its message about feeling alone in a group fit Leo’s role on the team. Even with his loud brothers around, he stands out as the one who has to keep everyone safe, guiding his family through New York’s shadows.
I also included the original 1983 music video, since it is pretty weird, and the main character is played by a young Danny Webb, who most recently appeared as Ser Arlan of Pennytree in Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
