Recommended music: Kraftwerk – Radioactivity
It’s #WhateverWednesday, and since my action figures are still packed and waiting for a new display, I’ll dig into the archives. After 1100+ blog posts, we’ll keep revisiting some old toys for now.
When I initially posted about this “Hazmat” version of Doc from NECA’s Back to the Future line, I picked the Lindsey Buckingham tune “Time Bomb Town” that appears briefly in the film as diegetic music around the time Doc is seen in this costume, and made it onto the official BTTF soundtrack. However, I also found another track not from the film that could also fit this figure.
Kraftwerk’s “Radioactivity” is a fine match for the Hazmat Suit Doc Brown figure because it creates an eerie, literal bridge between the track’s subject matter and the character’s iconic 1985 plutonium experiment. The song’s mechanical electronic sounds and subtle, clicking Geiger-counter rhythms mirror the hazards Doc is preparing to measure. Clad in his suit and equipped with a stopwatch and clipboard, Doc looks like he stepped straight out of a Cold War nuclear testing ground just as much as the Twin Pines Mall parking lot.
