Pippin (Reblog)

Recommended music: Andre Rieu – Irish Washerwoman

It’s #TolkienThursday, and since my action figures are still packed away, awaiting a new display, I’ll pull from the archive yet again today.

When I first posted about this figure, I chose a modern, meme-style song to wrap up the Fellowship of the Ring action figures, but I think I’ve found another option that fits just as well.

The first time I posted about this Fellowship of the Ring Pippin figure, I shared a picture of him biting off his elven brooch and leaving it for Aragorn to find. I chose “Shiny Happy People” by R.E.M., which is funny because I’d posted about another R.E.M. song from the previous decade just yesterday. But now, I think I’ve found an even better match for Peregrin Took. Take a look:

“The Irish Washerwoman” is an excellent fit for the ToyBiz figure, not from Howard Shore’s film score. Its lively jig rhythm matches the unstoppable energy of perhaps the Shire’s most mischievous hobbit. Before Pippin faces the weight of the ring or the darkness of Minas Tirith, he’s all about stealing mushrooms, dancing in taverns, and causing cheerful chaos with or without fireworks.

The upbeat sound of this classic Irish folk tune brings to mind a cozy village pub like The Green Dragon, with overflowing tankards and hobbits dancing on tables, before encountering things like the Ringwraiths or the mines of Moria.
